Door cleaning and care is an extremely important issue that affects their aesthetic appearance and durability. Daily use, as well as dust and dirt in the air, leave traces of use on the surface of the door. Properly selected cleaning agents will help us take care of their fresh and elegant appearance. So what to clean interior and exterior doors with? Let us give you some hints!
How to care for white veneer interior doors?
White veneer doors seem extremely difficult to keep clean. However, the truth is that they get dirty exactly like leaves in other colours. There is one exception – high-gloss white doors, on which fingerprints are easily visible. Veneer door leaves do not like a lot of moisture, so it is recommended to clean their surface with a cloth made of fine fibres such as microfibre, slightly dampened with water alone or with a small addition of a mild detergent. It is not recommended to use strong chemical agents or sponges that could scratch the surface of the door. In the case of doors covered with veneer, not only those in white, it is recommended to clean from the bottom up to prevent stains.
The ABC of interior door care
Wooden doors are very demanding when it comes to their cleaning, care and maintenance. Everything we do is aimed at keeping them in perfect condition for as long as possible. Wooden doors are exposed to dust and dirt just like everything else in our environment, so even if the dirt is not visible to the naked eye, they still require periodic cleaning. So how to clean wooden doors? First of all, dust should be removed from gaps and protruding parts. This can be done with a dust brush or vacuum cleaner with a bristle brush. An eraser to remove dirt and a cloth moistened with water and cleaning liquid for a particular type of wood will also be useful. We must not scrub the surface of the wooden door, but wipe it gently, so as not to damage the top protective layer. In the case of doors with glazing, it is necessary to get a gentle glass cleaner, which is applied directly on the cloth.
How to take care of dark doors?
Dark door leaves are particularly vulnerable to dirt, which can be seen on their surface. Especially anthracite, dark oak, wenge or strong solid colours, such as navy blue, black or dark grey. It is a good idea to wipe off the dust settling on protruding elements such as frames every few days. As with all other leaves covered with veneer, regardless of the colour, they should be cleaned with a soft cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. In the case of anthracite doors, manufacturers recommend cleaning them with special agents containing colloidal silver.
What to clean exterior doors with?
Exterior doors are the showcase of each home, which is why their proper appearance is extremely important. Front doors are particularly exposed to dirt and weather conditions. Proper care is a guarantee that they will last for many years and look perfect. It is important to follow the recommendations of the door manufacturer and not to use too much water, which no doors like in excess. For cleaning we should use a soft cloth that has been moistened with water and, for example, dishwashing liquid. Then we wipe the surface with a dry cloth. At least once a year, it is advisable to clean the doors with a special cream for exterior door care. When carrying out a thorough cleaning, it is also worth wiping down the hinges, which are an extremely important part of every door.
Regardless of what our doors are made of: MDF, HDF, particle board or natural wood, they should be properly cleaned and maintained. The most important thing is to follow the manufacturers’ recommendations, limit the amount of water, use non-aggressive cleaning agents and clean the surface regularly.
