How to build a partition wall with doors? – a quick way to divide your home space

Building a partition wall in a house or flat does not require any permits. It is also does not involve any specific requirements. This type of wall is not a load-bearing wall, so its possible removal will not affect the structure of the entire building or its part in any way. Thanks to this method, we can aesthetically and easily divide the space to suit our preferences. However, it should be remembered that a partition of this type must meet the requirements related to fire resistance and appropriate acoustics. It would also be good if it provided thermal insulation. The most popular materials to build such walls include OSB, plasterboards and gypsum boards. A plasterboard wall will be the most durable and the easiest to create. Its assembly does not require the use of mortar, so the amount of dirt generated during the work is relatively small. Boards of this type are 120 cm wide and between 2 and 3 m long. Their thickness also varies. As a standard, 12.5 mm thick, type A boards are used for building a typical wall with doors. For rooms exposed to moisture, it is recommended to use the more resistant, type H2 boards. It will also be necessary to purchase appropriate profiles that will be used to create the structure to which we will screw the boards and install the door. The most frequently selected ones include UW profiles, which will create the horizontal elements of the structure, fixed to the ceiling and floor, and CW profiles, which will become the base for the vertical section of the partition wall. The universal width of the profiles is 5 cm, unless electrical wiring is to be installed inside the wall, in which case the recommended width is between 7.5 cm and 10 cm.

How to build a partition wall with doors? step-by-step instructions

Start the installation by carefully marking the places where the partition wall with doors is to be located. Using a spirit level, batten and plumb line, mark the outlines of the partition on the floor, ceiling and side walls. Make sure to separate the support profiles from the floor with special tapes to ensure adequate sound insulation. Then, install UW profiles on the ceiling and on the floor as well as on the side walls is such a way that the profile ends were connected. To do this, use wall plugs and place them at a distance of about 50 cm from each other. It is also worth strengthening the profile connections with TEX screws. In the case of a wall with doors, remember to leave a gap in the floor profile, where the door will be installed. Depending on the width of the door leaf with the frame, the width recommended by the manufacturer should be maintained. The next step is to fix CW profiles in the horizontal profiles. Insert them starting from the top, next the bottom section, and then check they are vertical. It is important to position the profiles in such a way that on every second profile two plasterboards can be connected with each other. Fix the posts to the ceiling and the floor with TEX screws. It is recommended to use additional reinforcement in the form of horizontal crossbars in the middle of the height of the posts, which should be screwed together. In the door installation area, use UA profiles connected to UW profiles with angle brackets fixed to the floor and ceiling. Thanks to them, the door frame will be adequately stiffened. Then, using screws, fix the boards selected for the room to the profiles on both sides. The distance between the screws should be 25 cm. It is recommended to install the boards in their entirety, with as much surface area as possible, so that the wall will be more durable. Then cut out the holes for sockets and contacts and install the electrical wires. Finally, secure the connections between the boards with a suitable tape and joint. The partition wall built in this way is prepared for further processing, painting, and the installation of doors.
